Granddad Phillips had to depend upon several members of Congress as well as some help from then President Franklin D. Roosevelt to transfer over to the new Alcohol Tax Unit in 1934. There was, from family lore, another person that probably could have assisted and that would have been one E. Howard Hunt, Texas oilman. My granddad had owned a section of property in Hale County Texas along with James P. Carr of Tazewell since around 1900. I have all the information on that in another file. At any rate as many of the G-men left their positions with the Treasury Department around this time Granddad Phillips continued as a Investigator and Special Investigator till his retirement in 1947.
