Bethel Assembly of God was started in 1964. Seventeen attended the first Sunday School conducted by Brother and Sister Jerry Smith in June, 1964. They worshiped in the old ice house building. In 1965 they purchased a site and erected a tent and worshiped in it until the building was completed. The charter members were: Jerry and Patty Smith, June Greer, Glenn, Mae, Stewart, and Stanley Cupp. These ministers have also served as pastor: Brother Striclin, Cecil Fally, Scott Yancy, Jimmy Oxendine, Jonathan Woodman, Wade Smith, Don Wilburn, Melvin Sparks, Robert Black and John Allen who recently came here from Indiana in November 1987. The church now supports these missionaries: Rufus and Jacqueline Tallen (New Caledonia), Thomas J. and Phyllis Wheeler (Indonesia), and Gordon and Andrea Barnett (Cyprus).
