From Springdale Baptist church  where Little Sycamore Valley begins and goes to Mulberry Creek, there are five Baptist churches; namely Springdale, Little Sycamore, Pleasant View, Liberty, New Salem, and Little Mulberry.   Then there was this church long years before the Civil War, by the name of "Little Ridge", which I want to tell about.  It was a log church on little Ridge located on lands of my great grandfather Joseph S. McVay in Little Sycamore Valley.  It was a union church and I have no idea when it was organized.  All I know was Liberty Baptist Church was organized there in 1856, and that my great grandmother and four of their daughters and two sons joined Liberty Church.  I also have a receipt where my great grandfather bought a new stove and pipes from Thomas P. Greyham in Tazewell on 3rd day of March 1856 for the church.  He sometime had bought a beautiful lead crystal wine bottle for use at Lords Supper; and when the church closed its door, he brought his wine bottle home and set it on the mantle.  I remember seeing it there from a small child always wishing some day I could own it.  Now no one but my brother knows where this church was even located and he's already celebrated his 90th birthday. - Written and Submitted by: Alice Edels Lewis
