The church was organized 11/10/1946 with 94 members uniting at the organizational meeting.  The first service was held on November 17 at Ellen Myers School, and the following Sunday J. C. Dance of Clear Creek School was called as supply pastor.  In that same year, the WMU was organized with 11 members.  Land was also purchased for a church building site.

Ground was broken for the new church building in April 1947.  August 20, 1947, the church was received into full fellowship by the Cumberland Gap Association.

January 25, 1948, the first church services was held in the basement of the new church building which was completed and dedicated on November 10, 1957, the tenth anniversary of the church.

In 1954 additional property was purchased adjacent to that on which the church building was built in order to build a parsonage.  The parsonage was built in 1958 and occupied in January 1959.  This building has now been expanded and serves as an educational annex and fellowship hall.  The present parsonage (purchased in 1976) is located on the other side of the church building.  In the past few years two additional pieces of property have been purchased.

The following pastors have served the church: J.C. Dance, J. L. Ponder, Alexander Nisbett, P.C. Brown, Arthur Burcham, Glen Gregg, Claude Fox, Jesse Parker, Dan Naude, J. L. Shoun, Doyle Dunn, and James Ely.  Both Dan Naude and Doyle Dunn were ordained to the gospel ministry by the church. - Sent for the Harrogate First Baptist Church by the clerk, Robert G. Ziegler
