The Hopewell Baptist Church was organized the third Saturday in March, 1872.  The charter members were from Big Spring and Cedar Grove Baptist Churches.  F. M. Otly, from Salem; Isaac A. Campbell and Bishop Nevils from Big Spring Union formed the presbytery which examined the founding members on the principles of general union of the United Baptist Faith and pronounced them a Gospel Church of Christ.  Elder F.M. Otly was chosen Moderator protem and Brother B. H. Estep was Clerk protem for the Church's first business session, March third Saturday, 1872.

The first building was a log structure, located about 250 yards south of our present site directly across the road in front of the Gail Muncy Hansard house.  The building was destroyed by fire.

The second building, constructed in 1902-03, was a two-story, weather-boarded building located about one mile north of our present site.  This building served Hopewell Community as Church, School and Odd Fellow's Lodge in the upstairs facility.  This building was destroyed by fire too.

The third building, a white, frame structure, was constructed in the fall of 1916 approximately fifty-feet from our present building.

Hopewell's fourth building, the present brick structure, was constructed in 1965.  The first worship service was held in the present building on Sunday, April 4, 1965.  Dedication service was July 17, 1966.  The Rev. John Ogan preached the dedication service.  The Moderator called the Building Committee and for the burning of the note which signified that the Church's indebtedness was paid. - Submitted by Edward M.
