July 28, 1988 will mark 132 years of this friendly rural church, located in the valley of Little Sycamore, Route 6, Tazewell, Tennessee  37839.

On Monday, July 28, 1856 a Presbytery of Baptist Ministers met in the presence of a congregation and constituted a church to be known as Liberty Baptist Church, which had a membership of 21.

Elder Levi Nave was the first pastor and T. B. Mason, church clerk.  The members met in the Little Ridge Church building for a period of time (which was of the Methodist faith).  They also met in people's homes and kept a record until 1861.  There is no record during the Civil War.

Liberty Church has occupied 3 church buildings and a place known as Cook's Shop.  After the Civil War, in March 1869, they met in Cook's Shop for the purpose of reviving the Church and had a membership of 36.

In 1883 a place on the side of Little Ridge between Henry Friar and Jones land was selected to build a new church.  It was of log structure.  This was the first building.

In 1912 the first building was torn down and the logs were sawed into lumber.  The second building began and was built on land belonging to Rev. and Mrs. A. J. Buchanan in the valley near Sycamore Road.  The Church was dedicated in October 1913.

In 1953 two large Sunday School rooms were added and much repair was done on this building.

In Spring 1970 the Church felt it was time to build a new church.  The members donated timber and the men began to cut logs and saw lumber.

On July 11, 1970 Rev. Claude Surber broke the ground on the site where the third church was to be built.  This was only a few feet from where the other church set and on land belonging to Mrs. Mary McDaniel and the late Estes McDaniel.  Many members, both young and old, gave of their time to help build this church.

The first service was conducted October 9, 1971 and dedicated May 28, 1972.  Rev. J. P. (Joe) Whitaker brought the message.
