FIRST GENERATION

(1) John¹ Nunn, was born in 1722 at King & Queen Co., Va, and in 1750 at King & Queen Co., Va, married Ann WHARTON who was born about 1725 at Va. John died in 1763 at Va, Shenandoah Co., Va.

According to ONS, p. 40: "the first knowledge of this couple is found in the Overwharton Parish Register; on January 1, 1751, is recorded the birth of Thomas Nunn, 'son of John & Ann'. In 1760, he bought property on Saylors Creek in Prince Edward County, VA, and built a mill; Elizabeth, the widow of Thomas Nunn(d.1749) bought adjoining property the next year. John Nunn died in early 1763, and his land was sold by his brother , Joseph."

Accoding to ONS, p. 40: "Thomas Nunn(1751-1842) entered the Revulutionary Service from Caroline County, VA, and was living in Claiborne Co., TN, when he applied for pension in 1832, giving his age as 81 years "in January last past". I have no information regarding his descendants."

I am trying to identify the parents of Joseph B. Nunn, b. circa 1800, Shenandoah or Wythe Counties, VA. Believe him to be descendant of John Nunn & Ann Wharton, probabably through their son Thomas, about whom there is little available information, notwithstanding his brother,Wharton's many tracings. Joseph B. Nunn, with relatives appeared in Highland & Fayette Counties, OH, where in 1824, he married Mary Olinger, had several children, then migrated to Indiana, had more children before Mary died in 1846, thereafter he tarried in Grant County, Indiana, then came to Union County, Iowa, where he married again to Rachel Nunn, probably the widow of his brother Norman, before dying in 1878-79. Brother, Norman died in Union County, IA, in about 1855, leaving large family. Another brother,Thomas, died in Lee County, IA, where he settled after leaving Marion County,IN, circa 1845.

(3) WHARTON² Nunn, (John¹) was born in 1755 at Shenandoah Co., Virginia, USA, and on 1 Aug 1783 at Surry Co., NC, married Elizabeth Breeding, daughter of Spencer "New River" Breeding and Betsy, who was born about 1765 at Va. WHARTON died in 1842 at Tn, Claiborne Co., Tn. Elizabeth died in 1844 at Tn.

From the People's History of Claiborne Co. pg 130. In his pension application states that his father died when he was young and it is believed his father died in 1763. He apparently visited and lived with his uncle Joseph Nunn and his aunt Nancy Hurst (wife of John "Millcreek" Hurst Entered the service in 1776 and spent the winter at Valley Forge, was later wounded in the arm with a ball, settled after the war in shenandoah Co., then to Wythe Co., Va, for a few years, and by 1812 had moved to Claiborne Co., TN However several of his descendants remained in VA. On 1 Aug 1783 he married Elizabeth dau of Spencer & Priscella Breeding in Surry Co. NC.

(4) John³ Nunn, (WHARTON², John¹) was born in 1784 at Shenandoah Co., Caroline Co., Va, and in 1802 at Pulaski, Va, married Elizabeth Hurst, daughter of Absolom Hurst and Elizabeth Mdnu, who was born in 1782 at Va. John died in 1861 at Va, Shanendoah Co., Va.

13 i William⁴ Nunn was born in 1805, and on 19 May 1831 at Wythe Co., Va, married Charity Clark, daughter of Fugate Clark and Elizabeth, who was born in 1811. William died in 1884. Charity died in 1886.

(7) Elisha³ Nunn, (WHARTON², John¹) was born in 1791 at New River, Shenandoah Co., Va, and married Ollie Kirby who was born about 1829 at Tn. Elisha died in 1864 at Claiborne Co., Tn.

P. G. Fulkerson Came from New River, Va to Little Sycamore Creek about 1813. Married Lida Hurst Son Harmon married Betty Bartlet Abner married Margaret Harrell and moved west. Bradford

He also married in 1854 at Claiborne Co., Tn, Deliah Lida Hurst, daughter of John Hurst and Mary McCarty, who was born about 1793 at Shenandoah Co., Va.

(17) Sterling⁵ Nunn, (Harmon⁴, Elisha³, WHARTON², John¹) was born in 1830 at Claiborne Co., Tn, and in 1850 at Claiborne Co., Tn, married Mariah Harrell, daughter of William Harrell and Elizabeth Hurst, who was born in 1831 at Va. Sterling died after 1900 at MO. Mariah died in 1869 at MO.

SIXTH GENERATION
