Peter, Molly and Joseph came to Hancock County from Carter County, Tennessee and purchased land on the banks of Powell River about a mile from each other. Peter served abt 3 months in Wear's First Regt of East Tennessee Volunteers during the War of 1812. The legend is that he purchased the land on which he settled for 1 penny per acre, a hunting dog and rifle. The part of Claiborne county in which they settled became Hancock County. Had 12 known children
Peter was a Baptist and an active member in the early Thompson Settlement Church, and later the Rob Camp Church, located near the boundary between Va and Tenn. In 1842 the church was meeting in his home.
Most researchers agree that Peter had brothers Joseph and John.  Joseph also settled in what was to become Hancock Co., TN but John settled in Pulaski Co., Ky.

I am Robert Taylor Parkey, son of Lloyd William Parkey (Mulberry Valley) and Jimmie Derror Taylor; grandson of Cornelius FITTS
 (not Frank, as your records show) and Nancy Jane Edds (his second wife).  They also produced sons Elmer, Claude and Peter.  
Cornelius's first wife, Susan Virginia Click, and he produced Geneva, Charles Henley, Emma and Maude.  
My two brothers are alive as well.

Mary Hansard describes the Richard Harper of Claiborne Co. and his family; Richard Harper a brother of Willis Harper, owned and lived on a farm five miles west of Tazewell, the same that was owned by E. M. Redmond. He was old in my earliest recollection. He had the misfortune of losing one of his legs, having it amputated near the knee. I always manifested a great sympathy for him and called him Uncle. I don't remember his wife's maiden name. I was a great favorite of his. He never failed to bring me a fine apple when he came to town. They raised only one child, according to Mary Hansard's recollection. Mrs. Fannie Breeding was a daughter of his. She owned and lived on a farm on the hill this side of Springdale, owned at present by Rev. Manis. She was a widow in my first acquaintance with her. Her husband died leaving her in careof four sons and one daughter: Tennessee, Leander, Prior, and Patterson; the daughters name was Malissa. Mr. Thomas Whitehead was cripple and lived on the Richard Harper farm. He was the county trustee. Some unknown burglars entered his house and robbed him of $1100 of the county's money. I do not remember the exact date, but suppose it to have happened some time in the forties. I do not know that they ever knew who committed this theft. Mr. Tom Whitehead was a good citizen and much respected. This is all I remember of his history.

Isaac and Rhoda are buried on the land on which they settled. ﷓Isaac Parkey fought in the Civil War and rose to the rank of 2d Lieutenant. He served in Company A, 63rd Tennessee Infantry from 4﷓18﷓1862 to when he was paroled at Cumberland Gap, Tennessee on 1﷓24﷓1865.
Mary Parkey of Rt. 1, Box 225, Jonesville, VA 24263, great﷓granddaughter of Isaac, was creating a clearing house in 1978 for all Parkey researchers. She said in 1978 that the original tract of land in Claiborne Co., TN, purchased by Peter Parkey, was owned by James Weston Parkey, a great﷓great﷓grandson of Peter.
Mary died in a house fire in 2000.

He began farming on his farm which contained 600 acres in Hancock Co., Tenn. and in Lee County, VA in 1858. He enlisted in the Confederate Army, and in April 1862 he became second lieutenant of Company A. Sixty third Tennessee Infantry, serving at Chickamauga, and in the battles about Richmond and Petersburg.

Anne Fugate was the daughter of William Fugate and Martha J. Walker.  Martha J. Walker the daughter of Elihu Walker, son of Joseph Walker.
Joseph Walker was a volunteer in the War of 1812. He received a pension for his service, as did his wife Mary after his death. Mary stated in her pension application in 1878 that she had no proof of her marriage, since all her personal papers were in her Bible which was stolen "during the late war."
Joseph and his brother Edward married sisters, Mary and Mahala Tussey. Some sources say that they were married on the same day in 1817, in Sullivan County TN.
In 1818 Joseph Walker purchased land from Wm Hand in Claiborne Co TN. In 1821 he received a land grant from the state of Tennessee, in Claiborne Co.
In 1850 Joseph Walker owned 3 slaves: a male age 25 and 2 females age 20 and 12.
Joseph and Mary, son Johnathan and his wife Amanda Tussey, and many other family members are buried on a hill near Little Sycamore Road in Claiborne County, on land that still belongs to their descendants. There is an adult sized grave, marked only by fieldstones head and foot, next to Joseph Walker. I believe this to be the grave of his son Jacob.

JONESVILLE, Va. Mary Evelyn Parkey, 72, died Thursday (March 9, 2000) at her home. Born in Divernon, Ill, she had been a resident of Lee County, Va. most of her life. Miss Parkey dedicated over 20 years researching genealogy in this area. She was the President of the Claiborne County, Tenn. Historical Society and was a member of the Hancock, Tenn. and Lee County, Va. Historical Societies. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Rose Hill, Va. and a member of the Thompson Settlement Baptist Church of Jonesville, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tip Hoyle and Grace Busic Parkey; twin brother, Maurice Earl Parkey; and infant sister, Isabelle Parkey. Surviving are one sister, Louise McNiel and husband, Harold, Herndon, Va.; one niece, Rosemary McNiel Haines and husband, Gary, Oakton, Va.; one nephew, Robert Harold McNiel, Clarke County, Va.; five great nephews; one great niece; one great﷓great niece and nephew; and several cousins. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home of Jonesville, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Sanctuary of the funeral home with the Rev. John Zion and the Rev. J.D. Owens.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday afternoon at the Thomas Family Cemetery of Rose Hill, Va.
