These letters were sent to a cousin Sarah Jane Payne Vaughn Roller by Jacob C. Payne of Knoxville, TN. One in 1922 and the other in 1925. They tell of the hardships of their father being killed and all the children left with other families. (click for enlargement)
In the obituary you get an idea of how many times Jacob C. Payne moved before settling in Knoxville at age 68 in 1920. Isabell Payne taught school in Knoxville for many years and never married. Pictures of their graves in Lynnhurst Cemetery can be found HERE
