Could this be her?) Abt. 1758 in Albemarle Co., VA.
Notes for ROBERT JOHNS , SR.: From George Milton Johns, Sr.: Robert Johns, Sr. marriage to Mary (no last name at this time) believed to be a Monacan Indian. The first positive record of Robert Sr. of Amherst is found in the will of Alexander Trent II, which was recorded in Cumberland Co., VA 1750. This was prior to the formation of Amherst Co. In the Trent will Robert Sr. appeared as an overseer or manage of oe of Trent's plantations. Thomas Johns Sr. of Cumberland appeared as an adjacent land owner who had just sold cattle to Trent. It is believed that Robert Sr. and Thomas Sr. of Cumberland are brothers and are sons of William. Notes for MARY 'MONACAN': Mary, wife of Robert Johns Sr., is believed by the Monacan Indian Nation of Bear Mountain, VA as well as many descendants of her marriage to Robert Johns, Sr., to be a pure blooded Monacan Indian. This subject is under diligent study and review and it appears that no conclusive and definite proof of this allegation may ever be found. (Rob't Johns, 21 Dec 1997) The current Tribal Chief of the Monacan Indians of Bear Mountain, Amherst Co., VA, Kenneth W. Branham, believes that Mary Unk. who married Robert Johns, Sr., was an early member of his tribe.
