When Montague Miller Linkenhoker was born on October 2, 1887, in Amsterdam, Virginia, his father, John, was 48 and his mother, Mary, was 37. He married Eva Stanifer on October 14, 1922. They had one child during their marriage. He died on November 25, 1950, in Roanoke, Virginia, at the age of 63.

Mont Miller Linkenhoker, 62, of Roanoke formerly of this county died in a Roanoke hospital Saturday afternoon. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Oakey's Chapel. Burial was in Sherwood. He is survived by his wife, a son, two sisters and a brother, Mrs H E Thomas, Amsterdam; Mrs Minnie Layman and Frank Linkenhoker, Troutville.

 

 

 

When Mont Miller Linkenauger, Jr. was born on February 8, 1928, in Knoxville, Tennessee, his father, Montague, was 40 and his mother, Eva, was 32. He married Virginia Lee Cottrell on June 20, 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia. He died on July 28, 2001, at the age of 73.

WILLIAMSBURG - Mont Miller Linkenauger Jr., 73, of Lanexa died Saturday, July 28, 2001. Mr. Linkenauger retired from the College of William and Mary in 1988 as a professor of kinesiology. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Virginia Cottrell Linkenauger; three sons, Mont Miller Linkenauger and James Neal Linkenauger of Lanexa and David Lynn Linkenauger of Williamsburg; one sister, Mary Bob Edwards of Coronado, Calif.; and nine grandchildren, Mont, Morgan, Anna, Betty, Sally, James, David, Eva and Kurt Linkenauger. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mont Linkenauger Sports Medicine Endowment, College of William and Mary, AEF, Box 399, Williamsburg, VA 23187. WILLIAMSBURG - Harry Morgan Hodge, 89, died Sept. 23, 2009, at his home in Williamsburg. He was a true Southern gentleman. He had a passion for life and loved his family and friends, dancing, cars, golf, and telling jokes. Mr. Hodge was born June 22, 1920, in Mount Airy, N.C., and grew up in Washington, D.C. He attended Central High School and George Washington University, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. A Navy veteran, he served in the South Pacific during World War II on Admiral Halsey's staff. After the war, he began a career with the Central Intelligence Agency. When he retired in 1975, he received the Career Intelligence Medal from then Director, George Bush. He went on to have a very successful career in real estate with Long and Foster Realtors in Fairfax, Va. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene West Hodge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie H. Linkenauger and her husband, Mont and Diana H. Linkenauger and her husband, David; and six grandchildren, Mont, Morgan, David, Anna, Eva, and Kurt Linkenauger, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. A service in celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road. There will be a reception at the church following the service.
