(7) Edward3 WALKER, (John2 WALKER, John1) was born in 1756 in Duplin Co., NC, and in May 1790 in Sullivan Co. Ten, married Jane HOUSE, daughter of Frederick HOUSE.  Edward died on Aug 26, 1838 in Claiborne Co. Te.

There are differences in the lineages back from Edward B. Walker and Jane Horn as given by Joe Mode and that I have downloaded. The Walker DNA Project will serve to distinguish among the seperate lineages and I suggest that serious researchers go to the Walker DNA Project Home Page and visit Lineage 10 on the DNA Chart.

 

Edward was a volunteer for North Carolina in the Revolutionary War. He received a federal pension, # 11041. He began receiving his $40.00 per year pension on Oct 18, 1833. He collected a total of $120.00 After his death his wife filed for a pension. Government officials in Washington required proof of her marriage to Edward, and refused to grant her a widow's pension even though one correspondent informed them that Mrs Walker was certainly to be believed, since she was "one of the most respectable women in the state of Tennessee."

At the time of her application, widows of Revolutionary War veterans were only allowed pensions if their marriage had occurred prior to Jan 1, 1794. Apparently the officials were demanding proof of the date of the marriage, not necessarily of the marriage itself.

Attempting to prove her marriage date, Jane sent her family Bible to Washington, but the officials noted that all the children's birthdates were written in the same ink and the same hand. It was then admitted that this was a newer Bible copied from the old one, which had gone to Indiana with one of the daughters. A copy was made of the names and birthdates ‑ this copy is not in the microfilmed pension file. The file does contain a letter from Earl D Church, Commissioner, to Annie Walker Burns on Oct 19, 1929. Mr Church lists the names and birthdates of Edward & Jane's children for Annie, who used this documentation to join the DAR.

I was wondering if it might be possible to post the attached pictures to your  site in the hopes of identifying said 
pictures and the people therein. 
These  pictures were in the possession of a Walker ancestor, the Walkers being longtime residents of the 
Mulberry Gap area of Claiborne and Hawkins County. 
One of the women in the pictures looks a bit like my third great grandmother Margaret Ann Houston Walker who 
married Rev. John Davis Walker.  Other possible surnames or family groups
 associated with the Walkers would be Davis, Buchanan, Tussey, Horne, Houston, and Fox. 
Some individuals in the larger group picture are also in the smaller group picture. Same family, brother and sisters? 
I other pictures associated with these groups as well, especially the Walkers.
If you cannot use these, have any idea who could?
