William M. SPURGEON

William M. Spurgeon married Emily Hurst on 25 Dec. 1861 at BethanyChurch, according to Sevier County Marriage records. The marriage, on alicense issued 24 Dec. 1861, was performed by The Reverend ThomasMathews, Minister of God. Emily was really Emaline, according to otherfamily records. Emiline and William are buried in the Hurst Cemetery onWilhoite Creek in Sevier County, Tenn.


George W. SPURGEON

George and Rhoda are buried in the Braz Breeden Cemetery.


Nelly CAREY

Nelly died while visiting her sister in Georgia and she is buriedthere.


Tilman "Tim" SPURGEON

The name Tilman is variously spelled Tillman, and Tilghman. Tim wasthe black sheep of the family and though he went to Elementary School atBethany he refused to go to High School at an academy. He had awful luckin his first two marriages. His first wife, Vasty Loveday died shortlyafter giving birth to their daughter Jane. He then married JulieBohannon and lived as a farmer in Spurgeon Hollow on Wilhite Creek. Timand Julie had two children but then Julie died of Pneumonia in 1903.After that Tim left Wilhite and married Pearl Breeden daughter ofCampbell "Cam" and Nancy Breeden and they had six more children. Duringthe 1910's and 1920's, Tim and his family moved about a lot, living inSevierville, Sevier Co., TN, Leadvale, Jefferson Co., TN, Newport, CockeCo., TN and White Pine, Jefferson Co., TN. During prohibition, Tim isreputed to have been a bootlegger. About 1927, Tim and Ralph left thefamily and moved to Morristown. Pearl and her son Rome are listed in the1928 Knoxville City directory. Pearl worked at Standard Knitting Millsand Rome was an Electrician at Brookside Mills. They were both still inKnoxville in 1940. The youngest three children are taken from theKnoxville City Directory, not from family records.
Tim died in Morristown in 1930. He is buried in an unmarked gravebeside his nephew Caswell in the Hurst Cemetery in Wilhite Creek Valley,Sevier Co., TN

Vasta died in Childbirth with her first child.
