Richard my hiking buddy from ORNL at the beginning of the Art Loeb Trail. on left and in the Shinning Rock Wilderness area.  From Brevard, NC, drive into the forest on Hwy 276 past Davidson Camp Ground. Continue 1 to 4 miles or so until you reach the Ranger Station on your right. There you can obtain trail maps and information.”

View to the south walking along Art Loeb Trail, Blue Ridge Mountains. and the Pisgah National Forest. You can see the top of Slick Rock North Carolina. Lots of climbers use that.

To the south again. Slick Rock is clearly visable.

Almost to our campsite. You can see the quartz rock known as Shinning Rock. At night you can see the lights of Franklin, North Carlina from atop the quartz rocks. This trail is sometimes called Mountains to Sea Trail and it is in the Shinning Rock Wilderness

This bald mountain was once forested until cleard for timber by Champion Paper Company. It was grazed heavily by sheep and timber never grew back.
