Rose. John Wesley, County Court Clerk of
Claiborne County, Tennessee. Mr. Rose was first elected to the office of County
Court Clerk in August, 1902 and has been re-elected seven times since then,
having served longer in this office than any of his predecessors. His tenure of
office has been continuous since since 1902 except for four years,
1914-1918. Mr. Rose is one of most
widely and well-known people in his section of the state. He has rendered many years of service to the
people of his county in many ways other than his official duties, having taken
an active part in all civic and political affairs and has for many year been
regarded as one of the political leaders in section of the state. Prior to his
election to office, he was engaged in the mercantile business at Lone Mountain
for a period of fifteen years and for many years was engaged in the lumber
business. He is now engaged in farming and dairying, having one of the largest
dairies in his county. He was born in Grainger County, Tennessee on April 16,
1866, of Scotch-Irish descent.
His parents were Thomas Wesley and Nancy Mariar Jackson Rose; his father was a timberman
and a merchant. His paternal grandparents were ( John) and Nancy Rose;
maternal grandparents were James and Anne McDaniel Jackson. (Buried next to his
wife Nancy M. Jackson. Bingham Cemetery, Claiborne Co., Tennessee)
Educated in the Public schools of Claiborne County. Member of the Baptist Church; a Democrat; Mason; T.O.O.F. He was first married to Miss Lucy Lane who died on June. 9, 1918 and he later married Miss Ida Hodges on August. 15, 1924. He is the father of three children by his first marriage: Pearly, John Houston and Nancy; and two by his second marriage: John Wesley Jr. aged 12, and Edna May, born April 6, 1929, who died May 9, 1936.

Thomas Wesley Rose & Mariah Jackson: are "Big Pap/Black Tom"
& Mammy Rose (they had 6 sons, then 2 daughters... i have a pix & dates
for those). Their #2 son, Ben F & Eva Lelia Lane: are Grandpa & Granny
Rose (180 descend) (they had 11 children, and 26 grandchildren: #2=SamB Sr,
whose #1=my 90yr old mother (the oldest living Rose, in the BF-line...) was 2nd
oldest of the 26 grandchildren.

Epperson’s 1st sp. Martin Hipsher left for the Civil War, she then had an
affair with her neighbor Thomas Wesley Rose who
fathered 4 children with her that went by the SURNAME: Hipster but are really
by blood ROSE. No one ever found out what happened to Thomas
Wesley Rose during the War. It is assumed that he died. No one ever
found his body or where he died.
