Numbers
Why is 13 considered unlucky.
Why is the number "13"
considered an "unlucky" number?
Why do I believe that there is
truth in this so called superstition. I never really believed in
it until the summer of 1983 and a particular incident that happened to
me. I was placed on bus number 13 leaving from the back entrance
to the U.S. State Department and transported to the National Cathedral
for a Memorial Service for victims of the bombing of the U.S. Embassy
in Beirut, Lebanon. I was not a full-time employee just a
conditional employee and had no close friends with which to
converse. I was quite and unassuming but dressed appropriately in
suit and tie. I stood with everyone else during the Memorial and
listened with tears in my eyes as several important people delivered
kind
words of condolence to family and friends of those killed. It was
unfortunate that most of the personnel were secretaries and embassy
staffers there early.
I followed the line back to
the bus
13 and found a seat. I found it very unnerving that after I took
a seat no one sat beside me although there were several people
standing. Two gentlemen seated behind me began talking of their
experience just recently in Beiruit and how in years before it had been
a nice foriegn assignment for them and family. Then they started
talking about one of the embassy personnel that were killed and
that how their last short visit there it had changed. How trade
and
foreign business had declined and that the primary business were
brothels and houses of ill repute. That the moral at the embassy
had declined. I thought to myself, while wondering why I
was the
only lone person sitting by himself on the bus, had they thought
I looked suspitious, did
my apperance or dress offend them, and why were they talking about such
a deplorable thing as visting a brothel after a memorial service of
fallen commrades? As I exited the bus I happend to count the rows
to the front and I found, yes my friend I was also seated in the left
isle of row number 13.
The rest of my 1983 can be summed
up here.
Why is 7 lucky?
Lucky
Number Seven
Have you often asked yourself is
there any truth in the system of
numbering things. Many people feel that there are numbers that
are lucky and unlucky numbers. Let's say 7 for
instance. I recently sold a piece of land in Eagle Landing
Subdivision and almost double what I had paid for it. And it was,
yes Lot 7.
We attribute luck to the
number
7. I have found several websites that discuss why 7 is
lucky. In most cases I have found it lucky for me. I try
and think that for some strange reason it is lucky because it rhymes
with heaven but you can think what you want.
