for Alice HODGE: At last, a real live relative in Clayborn Co. and one that is
probably related in more than one way. My line runs from Sarah Alice Hodges who
married Albert Atkins in Lone Mountain. He was the son of Sam Atkins and
Malissa Walker of Walkers Ford. Sarah Alice was the daughter of Granville
Hodges and Margaret Jennings. Margaret Jennings was the daughter of
Anderson Jennings (1794-1857) and Zilphia More (Moore) (1810-1867).
It
is my understanding that Anderson was the son of Hezekiah (Kine) Jennings who
married Sarah Johnson in Johnston Co., NC in 1790, I think Kine and several of
his brothers Rials, William, George and John came to TN. and possibly to
Claiborn, at least they are mentioned together in the Wake Co., NC records.

Hodges was the son of James (c 1805-?) and Mary Cheek (1809-?) the daughter of
Corbin Cheek (1788-1838). James, according to my sources, is the son of Bibby
Hodges and Salley Brooks, Bibby and Salley were married in Halifax Co., Va. on
12 Jan. 180l and soon afterward moved to Claiborn Co. Salley's father was James
Brooks. (I am in the process of searching this line). I have heard that Corbins
wife was Polly Brooks. I wonder if Salley and Polly were related. My source
says the children of Bibby and Salley were James; Thomas m. Mahala Cheek; John
m. Prud Cunningham; a daughter (Susan?) who married Samuel McBee; Mary m. Labin
McBee; William (unmarried); Elijah; John; Bibby Robert; Elizabeth (?) and Sally
(?). Do you know any different?
I

she had a sister, Judy, who married Daniel Shumate. Was this one of your
