Joe - some points re Henrich
Geck material found on your web page. The
KIND of ship on which Henrich
came to America was called a pink, not
part of the ship's name.
And there is no convincing evidence beyone
hearsay that his wife was
named Catherine Peterson; on the ship's
passenger list there is
no woman by that name. And, there IS documented
evidence that he had a wife
named Hannah in America - shows up in some
of the records for some
of their children. Anyway. Hilary

KECK: From the Book " Down in the Barns " The Kecks of Claiborne County
Tennessee by Virginia Billingsley Fletcher.
The founder of the KECK

was in Orange Co., NC. In 1814, he was in Claiborne Co., TN. He settled

(26) Elizabeth3 KECK, (Conrad2 KECK, Henrich1 GECK) was born about 1800 at Orange Co., NC, and married (41) William SHARP who was born about 1790 at Tn.
No children of this marriage in these records.
(27) Eve3 KECK, (Conrad2 KECK, Henrich1 GECK) was born about 1802 at Orange Co., NC, and married (42) John SHARP who was born about 1789 at Tn.
No children of this marriage in these records.
(29) Charity3 KECK, (Conrad2
KECK, Henrich1 GECK) was born about 1808 at Orange Co., NC, and married
(43) Soloman GRAVES who was born about 1790 at Tn.
Notes for Soloman GRAVES:
I have been trying to prove
that John sebastion Graves and his Grandson were in the state of Tennnessee
Before 1796. John Sebastion Graves came to america in 1730 on the Alexander
and Ann . He lived in Berls Co. and abt 1754-56 he moved to orange Co.
North Carolina.
It has been proven that he
had 5 children and out of that five children 3 of them are my gggggggg
grandparents.
1. Boston Graves who married
Sarah Effland, they have already been proven as living in Tenn. before
1795. They were in Sharps chapel along with the Sharps and the other Graves
families. He also has land records for Knox County.
Barbara Graves daughter of John Sebastion Graves married Henry Sharp. They to have been approved for the first families. There daughter Sarah Sharp married my John Graves son of Jacob Graves and Turley Cobble , son of John Sebastion.
John Graves son of Jacob and grandson of John Sebastion Graves came to Tennessee and they have not been approved for the first familes. I think that it is becouse no one has applied becouse I believe they were there. John Sebbastion was buried in The Presbertian church yard on the property of Mr. Longmire. Later he was moved to the New Loyston Cemetery. His death was reported at the age 103-104.
His son Peter Graves was killed by the Indians at Sharps Chapel in 1796. Now it seems to me that if Boston graves, Peter Graves, and daughter Barbara Graves Sharp, were all here before 1795 then the records that speak of a John Groves , Jr. and John grorves Sr. that are listed in the Hawkins Land records of 1787 and are also listed in Annis Book records are the Graves that on times mispelled are indeed the Graves that I am searching for. Now all I have to do is prove it.
The people you are speeking of are my people. Is it not wonderful to know that your people were one of the first. William Sharp was the son of Barbara Graves and Henry Sharp. Boston Graves would be Williams Uncle.
The John Graves will on page 4404-404 Sept 2 1844 is the grandfather that I am trying to prove was here before 1797. He is the grandson of "old John of Stinking Creek N.C. He did leave his land to John his oldest son. Sarah lived on this very land until she died about 1860. that would be Sarah Sharp Graves. John , who was left the land was killed in Kt. as a prisoner of War while serving in the Civil war. His wife was named Isabell. I would love to have a copy of this will and do you know if there are any pictures avilable of this area.
Can you tell me how I could get records to prove that John Groves Jr. an d John Graves Sr. are really Graves. Could this be the same land that was first Hawkins and later Claiborn?
The Boston Graves is the other brother of john that come to tennessee. Only two of Jacob and turley Cobble's Children came to Tennessee. It is sometime hard to tell who is who but I hav e studied this family so well I know them by heart.
Boston Graves son of John sebastion Graves settled in Knox. County. They were the founders of Graverston, area of Tennessee.
Solomon was the son of John
and Sarah Sharp. If you can find those early hawkins records and think
they could be the same land we would be makeing a great contrubution to
the state of tennessee and Claiborn County becouse we would be opening
the door for a lot of people that could not qulitify for the first Families
befor e these records . There is not much difference between a o and a
a.
Thank you for your help
and if anyone

Von,
It seems the Graves family
was in Claiborne Co. at a very early time. I have seveal books that mention
Peter, Solomon, John Sr. and Jr. I will try and give you a short run down
of each name and then you can direct me toward the specific name you are
interested in. I am a member of the First Family of Tennessee through my
Payne line out of Washington, Co. My family moved from Hancock Co. about
1846 to Claiborne.
From the WPA transcriptions of Claiborne C. Will Book A 1837-1846 available from Mountain Press, P. O. Box 400, Signal Mountain, Tn 37377-0400 In William Sharp's will dated March 11, 1840, wife Catherine, Boston Graves was appointed an Executor along with Christian Sharp. In the settlement of his will among many Sharps, 3 yearlings were bought by Boston Graves for 10.25. Other Sharps mentioned were Isaac Sharp, Henry Sharp and Daniel Sharp. The last mention of Boston Graves was in the settlement of the Estate of D. B. Alexander in October term 1844. Boston Graves was proven to have paid 4.94 to the estate.
John Graves Will is on pg. 404-404, Sept. 2, 1844 He does not mention a wife but does mention his son John. He evidently was a man of considerable wealth as he leaves to his heirs 2340.00. He then leaves to his son Eli 150.00 He mentions his grandson Hugh H. Graves when he gives him a dark blue rone horse with saddle and bridle.
Solomon Graves, according to Virginia Billingsley Fletchers book, "Down in the Barns", refering to Head of Barren, a community located not far from Sharps Chapel, married a daughter of a very early Claiborne Co. settler Conrad "Coonrod" Keck. This book gives a good idea of the Sharps Chapel, Head of Barren community in an early day. Anyway Solomon Graves married Charity Keck. I estimate that they were born about 1800. A sister of Charity, Eve Keck married John Sharp.
So far the only mention of Peter Graves I have found is in Virginia Billingsley Fletcher's Index to the first Deed Books of Claiborne Co., Tn Peter Graves to R. J. Russell 1847 Boston Graves to Benjamin Sewell 1838 Boston Graves to thomas Isaac 1843 Boston Graves to Isaac Sharp 1843 Jacob Graves to John Graves 1832 John Graves to Gray Garrett 1833 John Graves to William Graham 1834 John Graves to R. J. Russell 1847 John Graves to Arther Nash 1849 John Graves to Alex Rouse 1855 Sebastin Graves to Henry Stiner 1838 Solomon Graves to John Sharp 1847
The Graves were mentioned as Grantees: The earliest sell mentioned was 1803 when: John Graves bought from Coonrod Sharp in Deed book A pg 223 unknown acreage for 450.00. He then bought in 1806 two more pieces of land from George Sharp. One for 1200.00 and the other for 170.00. These deed books are on microfilm from the LDS library. Boston Graves bought from Jacob Owens in 1812 pg 165 book D unknown acreage for 300.00. Boston and Sebastian were both on a deed in 1837, probably brothers, or maybe Sebastian a son. Ely Graves is on a deed in 1838.
In Virginia Billingsley Fletchers Index to the Probate Court Records, Claiborne Co, Tn 1844-1865 the following appears: Boston Graves (will, 9 Sep 1845 Will brought for probabe, Pulaski Co., KY, 15 Dec 1845. Boston of Buchanan Co., MO. Wife Elizabeth, children: Calvin, Malvind, Sarah McConnell, Louisa Jesse, Martha Jane Gaiter. Robert Jesse exec.) Sebastian Graves will is inventoried Sep 9, 1845.
Hope this is of some help.
I have planned to have my homepage up for quite some time but circumstances
beyond my control have prevented that.
