Charles Thomas McLaughlin, 75, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2006.

 

A native of Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edwin McLaughlin and Katherine Merkling McLaughlin. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Dodge.

 

He retired from the National Security Agency after 35 years of service and he was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, member of the Nantahala Hiking Club, Friends of the Greenway, Macon County Bee Keepers Association, Macon County Arts Council, the Kiwanis Club and the Sunset Saturday Morning Breakfast Club.

 

He was a loving husband and father who placed family and friends above all.

 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Alice Archer McLaughlin; three children, John Edwin McLaughlin of Severna Park, Md., Carol Ann Dixon of Boise, Idaho, and David Charles McLaughlin of Chester Springs, Pa.; two brothers, Edwin McLaughlin of Virginia Beach, Va., and George McLaughlin of Chestertown, Md.; one sister, Catherine McLaughlin of Kentmore Park, Md.; brother-in-law, John M. Archer III of Franklin; six grandchildren, Andrew, Keith and Sara Dixon; Corie, Kate and Jack McLaughlin.

 

A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church of Franklin on Friday, May 26, at 1 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Friends of the Greenway.
