Senator John Toomey Explains his Lineage


Senator Howard H. Baker, Jr. and I have corresponded over many years but we never got the opportunity to discuss slight kinship. Well my Toomey connection would be my Great Aunt Elizabeth Phillips, who married John Toomey.

James (Jamie) Washington Baker, (James Baker was Senator Howard H. Baker, Jr.'s great uncle) was born 23 Mar 1898 at Scott Co., Tennessee, USA, and on 15 Mar 1924 at Scott Co., Tennessee, USA, married Viola Toomey, daughter of John Toomey and Elizabeth (Bettie was my great aunt) Phillips, who was born 5 Jan 1898 at Scott Co., Tennessee, USA. James (Jamie) Washington died on 17 Apr 1983 at Onieda, Scott Co., Tennessee, USA. Viola died on 20 Apr 1968 at Scott Co., Tennessee, USA.
