Joe,
I clicked on your web page when visiting the Claiborne Co. site.
I was delighted to see that it included the Revolutionary War pension
application of my ancestor, Ensign John Day. Do you believe that Ransom Day
was a son of John Day, or did I misinterpret the information?

I do not have Ransom listed as a son of John, but it is possible. I have
run across his name in connection with my Days, but I didn't know where he
fit. Have you seen the minutes of the Big Spring Baptist Church? Big Spring
was contituted in 1800. It was located in Grainger Co. until Claiborne was
formed from parts of Hawkins and Grainger in 1801. Among the members of the
church were David Day (my ancestor) and his brother Levi Day, both listed
as sons of Ensign John, as well as Ransom Day, an Elizabeth Day, and a Days
King and a Days Delsey. (Were their names transposed? Should it have been
written King Day and Delsey Day?)

David Day was born c1773. His father, John, was married twice 1) Polly Susan
--- 2) Esther (Drennin?). Some think David's mother was Polly Susan; others
say it was Esther.

David Day was married first to Rosanna McDonald/McDaniel. There is a marriage
bond for David Day and Rosana McDonald dated 5 Nov 1796 in Jefferson Co.,
TN. Rosanna died young, perhaps in child birth, and David made a second
marriage to Ann "Nancy" Byrd, daughter of Richard Byrd and Elizabeth Buster.
The Days, Byrds, and Busters must have all originally lived near the Greenbrier
River in VA (present W VA) as there were several males from each family serving
in the same units during Lord Dunmore's War and then in the Revolution.
Richard Byrd, David's father-in-law, was a Revolutionary War soldier and
his name appears on a monument marking the Battle of Point Pleasant.
During Lord Dunmore's War, he served at the Glade Hollow Fort.

By about 1800-1805, some of the Byrds and Days had moved from Jefferson Co.
to Hawkins Co., TN. David Day moved there with his in-laws. Richard Byrd
and his wife, Elizabeth, were also members of the Big Spring Baptist Church
in Claiborne Co.

David Day purchased land in Madison Co., AL, in 1811, then sold out in 1820
and moved to Morgan Co., AL, where he died in 1862.

That long narrative is leading up to the Chitwood section on your site.
The Pleasant Chitwood who married Matilda Simpson had a daughter, Sarah, who
married John S. Day, son of Richard Day and Elizabeth Penn and grandson of
David Day and Ann Byrd. The Chitwoods, John S. Day, and my gggrandparents,
Abington Simpson and Lutitia Day, daughter of David Day, moved from Morgan
Co., AL, to Cherokee Co., TX, before the Civil War.

I'm happy to have found you, and I enjoyed your site. I don't know what
kind of information you're interested in, but, if I can be of any help,
let me know. I have two Day genealogies--or at least parts of them.
