M: 1. Maggie Underwood 4 Dec. 1892 Tazewell. She died between 1894

and 1900. She and Thurman had one child by this marriage.

A. Lela Poore b. 28 Feb. 1894 Tazewell. m: 4 July 1911 to Otis Hurst.

The 1900 census for Claiborne shows Lela Poore, 6 with Susan Drumonds, GG

Daughter. Thurman Poore, 27, is also listed in this census as the grandson of

Susan Drumonds. Dora, Thurman's sister, who lived in Texas, raised Lela

Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.

According to William Thurman Poores funeral record his parents were Calvin

and Polly Ann Drummons Poore. Thurman and Catherine are buried at the

Glenwood Baptist Church cemetery.
His obituary states that they were members of Inskip Bapt. Church. He was born near New Tazewell and came to

Knoxville 22 years ago. He was survived by his wife Catherine Poore; four sons, Steve, William, Earl, and Raymond Poore.

All of Knoxville. Four Daughters, Mrs. J.Hurst of New Tazewell, Mrs. Roy Brown of Inskip, Mrs. Trolen England of

New Tazewell, and Mrs. Sam Conner of Powell Station. A brother, R.T. Poore

of Knoxville, two sisters; Mrs. Dora O'Rourke of Quanah, TX, and Mrs. John

Greer of New Tazewell.

The 1880 census record for Claiborne Co. shows Ann Poor alone with her six

children.

Claiborne Co. show a Samuel C. Poor being born on 1 July 1862. Not sure

If this is correct or if Calvin and Polly were married earlier than 1868.

1870 census for Claiborne has Samuel C. as being 2 years old. Show a

Samuel C. Poor marrying Mary A. Sands in Claiborne Co. on 7 Nov. 1882.

E. Mason Greenleaf Poor b. 24 May 1817 Sullivan or Claiborne Co. d. 26 June

1872 Clainborne Co., Tennessee. m: Nancy Davis 31 Oct.1843 in Knox County,

Kentucky. She was born 18 Jan. 1822 and died 7 March 1914.

Census records show that Nancy's people came out of Kentucky. The 1850 census, Claiborne Co. shows this as household number 291-510, which is beside the household of Jesse Poor, 80, NC, NC. Household #282-509

Mason's middle name, Greenleaf, was in reference to his mothers Cherokee

heritage.

Indicates his parents were in North Carolina. M: Mary Morris b. ca 1800.

Maybe a second wife.

Children: Not sure how many children Jesse Poor had. The following are

listed in the 1850 Tennessee Census:

Edward 14, Mary 11, Eliza J. 8, NC NC Claiborne County 282-509.

No doubt

that there were more children than in this family.

Mason is listed in the next household at 33 years of age.

My ggggrandfather was Jesse Poore, born in N.C. in 1770. Eventually he

settled in Sullivan Co., TN. and went to Claiborne in the 1830's. He was

the first Poore in the county. I am currently finishing a family book on

the Poores in Claiborne County. I have a good deal of information on the

family. Do you know who Thurman Poore's father was? Many Drummonds married
